Giving is not an obligation. Like in we “should” tithe according to some suspiciously “non-biased” century drummed in beLIEf.
I think it is more accurately called “investing”, when people give you something, expecting a return in one way or another. It is a form of manipulation in this ego ruled society.
Or when people give because they are working on earning some good Karma.
Or because they want to be publicly recognised and praised for their giving.
Or because you gave them something, and they feel obliged to give you something back.
So, why give? Is it natural to a human being to share without any agenda?
In my last shamanic community gathering, one of the topics for the journey our teacher suggested, was to meet St. Nicholas or Father Christmas, whatever traditional cross-cultural name he has for different people, and ask him about the nature of giving and about true gifts. It was only a short journey, we had about 8 minutes to make it there and back.
The being I met in the lower world was extraordinary.
It bears to mention, that I stay away from all traditional beliefs, be it saints, prophets or mythical creatures.
What appeared was first someone stereotypically white beardy with a belly and a round laughing face, who said, that he is not what people made of him.
Then he showed me his alter ego, or maybe rather his original self, which looked like a very tall, Eastern European or Scandinavian looking guy, blond, young and handsome; in a long white robe of a hippy. He was standing in the sunlight in the green fertile field and his strawberry blond shoulder long hair was glowing in the sun and flowing gently with a light breeze.
He looked a little bit like a yoga teacher whose classes I used to enjoy many years ago, when my daughter was tiny, before he left the fitness center, when being presented with an ultimatum of either going self-employed or leaving… He had the best character for the yoga teacher: calm, non-judgemental, friendly, very present. It was a pity he left. I stopped going to that center, too.
While I was fascinated by the transformation, I reminded him of my question.
He said – the real and true gift is your attention.
This made sense. Attention is energy. Energy is life force. What can be a more valuable gift than sharing my life force with you?
Then he thought a little more and left me with this.
“Out of Light comes Love. Out of Love comes Life. Life is the gift of Love and Light. Life is the true gift.”
Life is the true gift.
Then I heard the drum signal change, calling us back to the middle world.
It is so simple.
If you give your attention, whichever form it takes in this physical dimension, you give of your Life.
And what is more precious and enriching than this?
Light, Love, Life to All.
